Sorrows and Struggles |

We are here to be tried. We’re assured, lovingly, authoritatively, even Scripturally that all the crap we’re called upon to go through in this life gives us experience and will ultimately be for our good. Of all oft-cited eternal truths, that’s possibly the assertion most likely to elicit a snort from my sweetheart.
On the model of the preceding page’s list of blessings I’ve received in eighty years as a Latter-day Saint, here’s a chronology of those events that I’ve seen fit to adorn with the evocative brown of this page. In counterpoise to the almost-obligatory upbeat character of our annual Christmas letters, I hope this will provide a faithful balance and a realistic context to the testimony I bear, nonetheless, of the overarching love and beneficence of Divine Providence. |
