1999—Aunt Verna
LOGAN, Utah - Verna May Seely Carter, 92, died Tuesday evening, July 6, 1999, at Lakeview Hospital in Bountiful, Utah, of heart failure.

Verna was born August 24, 1906, in East Mill Creek, Utah, to Arta McLean and Alfaretta Neff Seely. She spent her early childhood in East Mill Creek. When she was six, the family moved to Rosette, Utah.

She was educated in Rosette and Park Valley schools and graduated from Box Elder High School. She also studied at Utah State University and graduated from Keisters Tailoring College in Salt Lake City.

She married Kenneth Goodliffe Carter on March 23, 1927, in the Salt Lake LDS Temple. He passed away Feb. 22, 1993. They ran a sheep and cattle ranch in Park Valley for 50 years, then moved to Logan. After her husband’s death, Verna lived at Williamsburg Retirement Center in Logan, and, more recently, at Country Care Assisted Living in Farmington, Utah. 		1062ew
Verna was active in the LDS Church and served in many leadership and teaching positions including Relief Society, primary and young women's presidencies. She served with her husband in the Northern Indian Mission from 1964 to 1966, where she served as mission Relief Society president.

She enjoyed literature and writing and had several stories and poems published in various magazines. She was a member of the Eliza Nyman Olsen Camp of the Daughters of Utah Pioneers where she served for several years as lesson leader.

She is survived by a daughter, Alfa Jean (B. Kent) Carter, Centerville, Utah; and a son, Kenneth G. (Christine) Carter, Jr., Colorado Springs, Colo.; seven grandchildren, 29 great-grandchildren, and three great-great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, three brothers, one sister, her parents, two grandsons and one great-grandson.
