2003—November: Chris & Mary Beth |
Where 17th South crosses 5th East1, not too far from our Sugar House digs, the historically-minded folks of Salt Lake have assembled a rock garden that they call the “First Encampment Park.” Each member of the company which preceded Brigham Young into this valley is acknowledged by name on a big rock.
We gathered around the inscription to our Uncle Orrin Porter Rockwell. Don’t recall whether Cyndi or Mary Beth took this shot; most likely the latter. |
1The signs (and some of the locals) say “1700 South” and “500 East.” We miss interesting street names. It’s a balm to encounter, however sparsely, “Gentile Street” (in Layton) and “Mutton Hollow Road.” (in Kaysville) |
