Gwendolyn Seely Goates (1934-2017) |
Gwen was born October 16, 1934, at home in Brigham City, Utah, the daughter of beloved parents F. Leland “Jim” Seely and Grace Emily Thompson Seely. She passed away Thursday, November 30, 2017, of heart-related causes.
She graduated from Box Elder High School in 1952. Gwen later attended Weber State and then Brigham Young University, where she graduated with a degree in elementary education in 1956. While teaching 2nd grade at Jackson Elementary, she also taught dancing at the “Thursday-night Dances” around the Salt Lake valley. |
It was at one of these dances that she met Kenneth Joseph Goates, who was attending BYU in Provo at the time. They were married on December 18, 1959, in the Salt Lake LDS Temple. Ken and Gwen liked to point out to everybody, “We rhyme!”…
Her greatest love and challenge was her precious family. She gave up teaching to be with and support her husband and children. She has a strong testimony of her Savior, Jesus Christ, and was a true disciple all her life. She was well-known as a kind and generous person, beloved and respected by all who knew her. |
