2008—Rattling around |
Yep, that’s what we old people would be doing in this great, big Chankly of ours, if we hadn’t rented out the upstairs that the Ralstons vacated in favor of the fleshpots of Orange County. Our neighbor Harvey Mortenson could never come through our front door without commenting on the size contrast between our digs (he called it the “palace”) and the house he and Patsy shared, a couple of blocks away. |

We were okay, though: Ron and Valerie had designed our “mother-in-law apartment” so that we had everything we really needed. But when the Beynons responded to the imminent arrival of a little one by buying another place, three or four doors away, we decided we’d be even more comfortable renting out the basement and occupying the upstairs ourselves. So Jared (a distant Neff-line relative) and Jenny Huffaker and their little Bentlee contributed to our income and lived there long enough (we think we recall) to bring another young one into the Fox Pointe Ward, before moving to the Wyoming border, where he’d be closer to the rodeo world. |
