Back and forth with Tom Rogers |
It’s true that we who spend time in the Temple do so for higher and more eternal reasons than for the sake of the fellowship we find there. Temple service is a marvelous and multifaceted experience, replete with diverse blessings. At the same time, truth requires that we admit that that fellowship is by no means the least of the blessings that inhere in Temple service. |
Several years ago, it was my great pleasure to “seal together” for a while—not nearly long enough—with Thomas F Rogers, who combines profound spirituality with one of the nimblest minds I’ve encountered in a life blessed by a number of such associations. If you think I’m going overboard here, just Google Tom and check out his amazing résumé.

After immersion in Charlie Decker’s story for an extended time, and remembering some of what Tom had told me, between sealing sessions, about his own pioneer family history, it occurred to me, early this year, that he got whisked away to Russia before we had a chance to do a decent job with our commonalities. So, I organized a supper gathering at
Chankly for Tom and Merriam, Rick and Laura, Ron and Cyndi and Matthew, and Valerie and me.
We exchanged some written items, which I’ll file on Jobiska for your leisurely delectation at |

The folder includes the full texts of several items we exchanged which are only mentioned in the correspondence that I’m about to cite:
