I sent a thank-you e-mail from our motel room to Jim Griffith, before retiring at the end of a supremely eventful Sunday: |

Date: May 31, 2009 at 6:52:14 PM To: Jim Griffith Dear Mr Griffith, The attached photo recalls our conversations of last Friday: Barney Klimeck was showing me around the Siloam Cemetery, and we came across this fascinatingly-named relative of yours. Everybody to whom I’ve mentioned your kindness on Friday afternoon says, “Oh well, that’s just Jim: that’s how he is.” Be that as it may, I’m hugely in your debt for the time you spent and for your effort in educating this aging researcher. I attach also a summary of what we uncovered; it highlights the gaps I have yet to fill. Major thanks. |
Valerie and I visited this afternoon with Wade and Kristie Holmes, the current owners of the place we were tracing. Seems Kristie’s mother is Norma Defoe, which looks too much like Deyoe for coincidence; I’m chasing the connection further. Also outside the realm of imaginable randomness is the Michigan connection between the Deyoes and my Sawyers. |
His response, the next day:
What a nice and pleasant surprise for me when I opened my e-mails this morning. Usually there are a bunch of Viagra commercials and funny e-mails from my relatives so yours was very welcome. I am glad that you had a nice visit this weekend and I am already trying to think of things that may help us fill in the gap. Please do keep me posted since now your quest is mine !!! Jim Griffith |
