“Where’s the Bell, Mel?”) Kinder, President of our PHS
chapter that year. Me, a lowly “scrub,” I’m third from
the right, ’way down front, unaccountably but distinctively slouched.
My assignment, that first year, was to put together the Club’s
1955-56 Scrapbook. Not something I’d had any real experience with,
but it turned out OK. They gave me a budget ($50 comes to mind, but I
wouldn’t bet the condo on it), and I devised a round
scrapbook. Three-quarter-inch plywood covers, about 24″ in
diameter, the top one hinged on the left along an 11″ chord, with
a circular tooled-leather inset, maybe 7″ in diameter, bearing the
Key Club insignia that you see on the back of the jacket they’re
holding in the photo. It took first prize at the District Convention. No
idea what’s become of it since.
