Christmas Greetings, 1956
This year, I entered high school, and my sorta-foster-brother Del Riddle entered our family’s life. As Drum Major of the Pacific High School Band, and as Governor of the California/Nevada/Hawaii District of Key Club International, and as a very able bassoon player, and as a new convert to the Church, and as a Big Senior when I was a lowly “scrub” (tenth-grader/sophomore), Dilford (as Pappy liked to call him) was a very impressive character, in my pudgy young eyes.
Pappy wasn’t overly fond of some of Mammy’s relatives, and so she was always struggling upstream to get us to spend time with her side of the family. Here’s this year’s Christmas-card note to Verna.
