Honor Rolls

Can’t say I ever really understood the proliferation of Honor Rolls, Honor Societies, Scholarship Federations, and whatnot that came to group the same bunch of smart kids together, pretty much redundantly but with varying levels of exclusivity.

I gather that this alphabetical “top of their class” list, displayed in the graduation section of the yearbook, was defined by some grade point average cutoff.
