312 East Sixteenth Street |
The south-facing cottage at 312 East 16th Street was to
remain our family headquarters until 1969. The kitten and I enjoyed that lawn-chair. The inset shows the gingerbread (washed out in the main image) that adorned the gable, when we arrived. The left-hand door and the windows flanking it belonged to the living room, with two bedrooms behind it; the kitchen lay behind the door on the right.
After we’d been there some time, we engaged Shirley Bogh to undertake extensive remodeling. The new work rectangled-off the house’s L shape, adding a new roof, a utility room, an improved bathroom, the northeast bedroom that Brent and I shared, a hallway through the original bathroom, and a lot of interior improvements, including The Bookcase and the living-room fireplace. |
