2006—The Rededication |
Rededication Ceremony for Isaac Decker’s Grave and new Monument Salt Lake City Cemetery 10 AM, 11 November 2006 |
I was just telling some of the younger folks here about Isaac and his family hiding in the frozen weeds by the Des Moines River on the exodus from Missouri -- terrible, scary story -- which points out to some of us that if we get a little bit wet and a little bit cold we probably would be wimpy to complain about it. Welcome, everybody! Friends, neighbors ’Specially cousins and descendants of Isaac Decker. I’m Andy Anderson; I have the honor of starting this meeting. Let me start it by taking roll. Let’s go down through Isaac’s descendants and see who-all’s represented here. May I have by a show of hands everybody from his first-born, Lucy Ann Decker Seely Young? We've got quite a few hands coming up on that one. OK, how many...do we have any Charlie descendants here: Charles Franklin Decker. None of those? The next one was Harriet; I know we have a Harriet here...Yes, OK, these folks come through Harriet, who was Harriet Little and later Harriet Hanks. Then the next one was Clara: Vilate Clarissa Decker Young, Brigham’s third wife in polygamy. No? No Clara descendants. Then Fannie was the next-to-last; she married Feramorz Little...no, none of those. And I know we’re honored by lots and lots |
of Perry’s kids: Isaac Perry Decker, the little boy on the monument. Welcome, cousins! It’s a joy and a pleasure to meet with you, to get acquainted with you…
