Brent and Mimi were living in Vienna, Virginia, and we were visiting them. We’d received invitations to the wedding of our cousin David1 Anderson’s daughter Cara in Apex, North Carolina. They hadn’t insisted on an RSVP; nor, we gather, had they expected us to attend. So, of course, we four climbed in the car and drove the 294 miles to Apex. We’re morally certain Dave and Marta were as glad to see us as they were surprised.
