Remodeled
Remodeling turned the house yellow and replaced the gingerbread with a vent.* Mostly concealed here by the bougainvillea, the kitchen door still lay to the right. I write in the past tense, inasmuch as the house no longer stands (as of 2003). This shot dates from the Sixties, after I’d left home.

At left: a great portrait of Brent, as he looked around the time we came to California.
*Anent the vent… Brent elucidates: “…you can see distorted louvers in the vent above the porch. The reason for the distortion is my propensity to throw a tennis ball against the upper wall and catch it on the rebound. We didn’t have a barn wall, you see. And my aim was less than perfect. The carom off the vent was no fun either.”
