By contrast, the town where the actual mob murders took place presents a tidy, attractive appearance, 160 years later. Carthage, the shire-town of Hancock County, Illinois, looks as prosperous as
Warsaw does depressed.
The town may draw some economic benefit from the flow of tourists, particularly “Mormons”, who visit its jail, particularly in season. Just a speculation. Most of those tourists, I suspect, don’t include Warsaw on their itineraries. |
