2003—March: Olsens at Wheeler Farm |
We went on an outing to the Wheeler Historic Farm, a county-owned recreational facility, south of Salt Lake City. Emily and Zannah enjoyed the Playground Fort and other bits of preserved and reconstituted ruralia. |
I’ve checked, by the way, and there’s no close, easily-established relationship between the Wheelers that used to own this land and our pioneer Wheelers. But then the only one of ours who came this far west was Grandma Harriet Page Wheeler Decker Young, whose kids brought her husbands’ surnames into Utah, not hers. Our real pioneer Wheelers did their pioneering in the East and in other centuries.
George Wheeler, a friend at the Bountiful Temple, may be kin to these. We call each other “cousin,” on the negligible strength of the coincidence. |
