2001—September: Temple Spire |
President (our esteemed cousin) Gordon Bitner Hinckley dedicated the Boston Temple on the first of October in the year 2000. Almost a year later, it still looked like this, lacking1 the customary spire and golden angel. Once the wheels of the powers that be had ground to their statutory fineness, the crane was called out and finished the Temple in three stages: a short white base, the steeple, and the angel. |
1Four abutters had objected to the spire. Their objections had to be heard and given due process. It took a year. There is no truth to the rumor that we locals referred to these neighbors as “the abuttheads.” That would have been impolite. |
