Bookcase Groups
One of the finest group shots our extended Anderson family ever stood for: Our Loophie (Ruth Eloese Anderson Dunaway) holding Scott, Grandpa Francis Emanuel Anderson, Grandma Anna Eloese Poulsen Anderson, Pappy, Brent, Mammy, and me. A perfect example of my beloved grandparents’ insistence that one should always face the camera directly, with the straightest face imaginable. That’s how they were fetched up, and we always got a bit of surreptitious glee out of trying to catch them on film with a real expression. Not this time. Pappy, too, shows some effects of this heritage.

Must confess to a bit of uncertainty as to the date of this jewel. The clothes suggest strongly that this shot and the ones on the next page were all taken on the same Sunday (that’s when we’d be dressed like that). The group includes both a very young Scott (born 1954) and Del, who was with us from 1956-58). These forces did come together when I finished high school in 1958, but both Scott and I look too young for that. Did they all come to Berdoo in 1956 or 1957? Maybe for Christmas? Somebody please help.

Also, please note in passing that light-gray tweed sport jacket I’m wearing. It’s the very one that Valerie would cut down to an overcoat for toddler Ricky, as later photos attest.
