More Fireplace Groups
I’ve always avoided these dressup events, where possible, but Mammy saw to it that I attended some, anyway. In later years, Valerie has graciously resigned herself to my confirmed wet-blankethood. Below, one historic triple-date group. Perhaps connected to the nuptials of Valerie’s sister Karen (at left) and her dashing groom, Chuck Webb, a high-school buddy of Brent’s.
That’s Debbie Bethers with Brent, above.

In his youth, Chuck went by the dashing cognomen of “Chuckie-poo;” we’ve done our best to ensure that his nieces and nephews know him to this day as “Uncle Chuckie-poo.”

Brent attracted a lot of beauty for display on the hearth. Over and above his own macho pulchritude, of course. On the left, that’s Pru (Prudence Lydia) Hill;* on the right, Sue Wright.
*Brent: “…from somewhere out in the desert…I met Pru when Bob Brown and I debated her and her partner (also lovely). We whipped them in the debate, but she slew me. Bob and I went for a double down to their town; the folks fretted that drive significantly. The event of the formal picture in front of the fireplace was Pru’s resection of her burg at the Job’s Daughters’ formal dance at a big hall I can’t remember in SB. For years I carried the delightfully malaprop ticket to the ‘Sweatheart Ball.’ All the kids at church knew how smitten I was with Pru; they sniggered unmercifully when we’d sing the final verse of ‘Improve the Shining Moments.’”
