Five Years…

We were all pretty sad and solemn and tender (Valerie described it as “…sitting around feeling grumpy and lumpy…),” at the fifth anniversary of our Chris’ passing, and we exchanged several e-mails to try to cheer each other up. I’ll share mine in the sidebar. Mary Beth’s contribution was this photo, remarking that “This picture always makes me laugh. Figured you could all use a laugh, too ❤️”
Faith and mental health—concepts with a lot in common—both encourage us to see even our most painful experiences as a compound in one, so that we can cling to the affirmative, even as we weep over the other. I’m feeling grateful that we’ll get to spend tomorrow in the Temple, as we did that day five years ago. Valerie was rendering her uniquely joyful service here and there in the building, and I was conducting a sealing session. Room Four: I still go there with a pang, remembering how the coordinator brought one of the other sealers and said I was wanted in the President’s office and wouldn’t be back. I’m grateful that you, Rick, came to give us the news. Much as we love our fellow-servants in the Lord’s House, we needed family in that moment, and still do. Thanks to all of you for continuing as the mortal focus of our blessings, even through the tears.
