May 18: Chris is officially a teenager. Ten blue and three white candles, on the official chocolate layer cake in the official Timbaloo dining room. The sinister connotations of “thirteen” don’t seem to bother him.

Just a week later, May 25, Rebecca (next page) turns seven. Same venue, but a sweet, girlish, pink cake in front of a big grin. By September 28, Rick was in Idaho, no longer at home to observe his eighteenth. We celebrated him in absentia, but I can’t lay my hands on a photo. Likewise for Cyndi (March 2), Debbie (September 10), and Justin (May 29). When the pix turn up, I’ll plan to insert them.
