P7058 She wanted a cradle for her doll. So I designed and constructed this one—surreptitiously—in the basement. Blue, to match her eyes, and Chris’.1 Valerie chose the bear-decals.

Can’t remember the details, but there was a story around about a treasured cradle that hadn’t been sturdy enough for the burdens that its young proprietors called upon it to bear; so, I made this one out of ¾-inch pine, with the strongest joints I’d yet learned to fashion. She was thrilled, as you may discern. The cradle still serves her kids, in New Jersey.
