Christmas 1966
That’s our Pappy, front and center, with Mammy at his right, me peering over his shoulder, and Valerie to my left. I think Bert van Uitert (then our bishop) in his hat stands two rows above the folks. Marvin Heilesen (I think) leads the Cambridge Ward Choir on Louisburg1 Square on Beacon Hill on Christmas Eve. Where, we’ve always been assured, Christmas caroling was invented in the New World. The locals, watching and listening out the window, seemed glad to see us, and the Boston Globe found us seasonally newsworthy. Right next to the weather report.
1For the edification of you furriners, the “s” is pronounced.
