Christmas 1966 |
Considering our material poverty, the corner by the front window held lots of loot, for our first Christmas in our own home. Nothing like having generous, loving ancestors visiting for the occasion.
First time we had to put up the gate around the presents: no way was Rick going to seize the concept of waiting for Christmas morning… |
I clearly had my way with the tree. Also with the wall hanging beside it. I’d brought home from France a bunch of art-prints-on-dishtowels (Mona Lisa, etc.);1 this contemplative one always kinda moved me, although I couldn’t say exactly why. May be a mite clearer, nowadays. 1Valerie never cared much for them, but in this, as in so many things, she has graciously humored me. |
