Temple Dedication
This was a huge event for us of the “Inland Empire.” Until the Los Angeles Temple opened in 1956, our nearest access to temple worship was in Utah (Saint George — thirteen pre-Interstate highway hours away) or Mesa, Arizona (somewhat closer, but still a long bus ride).
I remember a couple of youth excursions to Mesa for baptisms. One, in particular, where I served as proxy for thirteen consecutive John Joneses. I received my endowment in Los Angeles on 31 August 1961, in preparation for my mission departure.
