Seven Bishops
The ward’s Bishop was the man in charge of us young men of the Aaronic Priesthood. And everything else in the Ward congregation, of course, but particularly us boys. Here’s a collection of bishops, snapped when Robert L. Simpson of the Church’s Presiding Bishopric* came from Salt Lake, in the 1960’s, to dedicate the Pacific Avenue chapel.**

The bishop on the left is Howard Anderson, who was in charge of the Third Ward when I graduated from Pacific. His apparent headdress was inadvertent, I suspect. The next one’s Ken Dyal, Gladys Dyal’s husband and (1965-67) our Democrat Congressman. He was Bishop during my first mission in France. Next, the estimable Shirley Bogh. Then Bishop Simpson, Carroll C. Nichols (3rd Ward Bishop after Bishop McBride)** and Bishop Tom Slade (First Ward Bishop after Bishop Dyal).** Finally, at far right: Leo Lee,*** a good friend from the Third Ward, who served after I left the area.

*Which office he held from 1961 to 1972.
**According to Jerry Woll, who provided flak (further light and knowledge) via the Saints of San Bernardino website.
***Leo came into some of our family punsterism by virtue of the similarity of his name to "Leola"...
