Public Speaking |
After taking a single semester of Public Speaking from
Mother Mary Gottlieb, I got involved in debate. Not for long, and without
distinction. Never did quite grasp the structure of formal
debate and, frankly, lacked any thought-out opinions worth defending.
Did get encouraged to write and deliver a few competition speeches. This was the Junior Chamber of Commerce “Voice of Democracy” competition that I actually won by submitting a taped delivery of my speech. They provided a nice trophy and a modest cash prize. |
Emboldened, I guess, I also entered a contest that the local Lions’ Club ran. Don’t recall any associated prizes, but I got invited to a few club meetings to repeat the speech. Each club gave me a Lions’ bookend thingy. None of the trophies seem to have survived the 2003 move to Utah. |
