Valerie was
prettier than all the presents and wrappings at her
bridal shower. Some years earlier, I was even more
ill-at-ease
than I look here.
Our dining-room table sat here or in Pappy’s corner, as above, except when we would pull it out and put in the leaves for company. When we got one, the TV set stood in front of the middle of the panelled north wall that you see behind us. Just to the right (south) of that corner, here adorned by Annie, was the door into the hall and kitchen. That’s our doorbell, not some sort of precocious E.T. apparatus, growing out of her head. Nothing in my memory accounts for the bizarre camera angle. Maybe I was just becoming aware of Hitchcock… You can just catch a glimpse of the dining table to the left and the bookcase to the right. |
