back Munroe’s Answers to Bacon next
Somebody with legal credentials and fine handwriting helped Grandpa William Munroe respond formally to Bacon’s obnoxious obfuscations. Wish we knew who: he could come in for some of the admiration we reserve for family heroes. Makes one wonder how people with such skills could be hired for sums smaller than those under dispute here.

Through his unidentified mouthpiece, with logic and good sense, William demolished Hoare’s whining, nitpicking jeremiad. At several points, the writer permitted himself a fairly startling amount of sarcasm; perhaps he was conscious that the judges would see the issues his way and treat the “Reesons” with the contempt they deserved.

I hope the Hoare document hasn’t discouraged you from attempting this one; it’s worth the trouble. So that you can, I’ve put each half on a separate page, here and here, with my (fallible) transcription.
