Chambord, Citroën |
Even with all their responsibilities, the folks found time to take us to the Loire Valley. Photos of le Château de Chambord sell for cent balles la douzaine; I confess that I took this one. Wretched as it is, from a photographic point of view, it’s still precious to us as the only image that remains of our family group in the Mission’s Citroën DS-21, in which our lives would turn upside down, only six months later. |
This was a top-of-the-line luxury car, of course: the best the French made. Pappy said he’d been given the choice of this or a Mercedes for the presidential chariot, and he chose the DS-21 out of Gallic cultural loyalty.
Same vehicle (maybe); location uncertain; same Cutest Representative of our delegation. More than just his fingers, this time. But blurry. Oh, well… |
