October 20—So this is my anniversary at Rennes, and the occasion finds me somewhat pensive. The experiences of this past weekend have made me think about some [209] problems of human relations among Church members, and some of those problems touch me personally. I seem to observe that it is possible–even necessary–for each member to give of his spiritual strength to others who may have less. But unlike such resources as love and knowledge, this spiritual strength, once given, seems to be diminished in the giver, who then needs rest and, perhaps, another’s shared strength in his turn. Seen from this angle, spiritual strength seems more like physical strength than like more renewable spiritual resources.
