Journal March 15-17, 1962

March 15 (continued)—In the little development called Red Cross, at the far western end of Rennes (and of the European continent, as far as the missionaries are concerned), in the very last little house at the west of the development, we’re teaching the young family of Mr Jean Lefevre. The Spirit is there, but not always. We have to bring it back frequently.

Mme Salomon is still a wonderful investigator. She’s always looking for ways to arrange group meetings for us. And for herself, her faith is a beautiful thing. She doesn’t yet understand everything she’s heard, and she has yet to hear it all, but already she expresses complete confidence, in advance, in everything we’re going to tell her. She believes in the Prophet Joseph Smith and in the Book of Mormon, and she’s in the middle of reading the latter.

Yesterday, President Hinckley made his first visit to Bretagne. He had lunch with us at the Pingouin, and then we went (President Hinckley, President Woolley, Robins, and I) to see meeting-place candidates. We decided we’d do our best to rent the big hall of the Hôtel de France et des Monnaies, where we held the Christmas party.

March 16—You’d have to see the Leroy family to believe how it is with them now. Each member of this family that I love (all the way to Nelly) is a fantastic missionary. We joined them for family prayer, last evening. Sister Leroy offered it, and it was very beautiful.

March 17—Another group meeting, this evening, at Delétangs’. It was the third gathering for this group, which includes the amazing Mme Salomon. As she was getting into the casserole to go to the meeting, she asked, “Once I’ve finished reading the Book of Mormon, will I be permitted to ask for baptism?” We assured her that she would.

During the meeting, Sister Salomon bore several very striking testimonies. She finds the Book of Mormon “marvelous,” and she assures us that we can’t possibly understand “how much I am helped since you came.”
