e. e. cummings (1894-1962)
I was already a confirmed fan of the great estlin cummings, well before he came to read at Kresge, less than four months after my arrival in Cambridge.

The story is that he agreed to appear on condition that he not be approached for autographs, and that no optical instruments or sound recording equipment be allowed in the hall while he was there. The clipping at right, from the next issue of The Tech, illustrate MIT’s level of compliance with his requirements.
But then all I’ve ever learned of mr cummings suggests that he was, at heart, an MIT hacker, albeit admittedly English Orator for Harvard’s Class of 1915. He can’t have been entirely serious about excluding devices from a hall full of Tech Tools.
