Speaking of cordial adversary Ken Gentle, may I digress?
This may be as good a place as any to note that the unconventional behavior of us East Compost Tools came in for occasional criticism from others who found hacking, water-fights, and even intense studiousness inappropriate—some said “immature.” Well, Ken and I can take some credit for muting that flak: even at MIT, straight-A students are fairly scarce. It puzzled some folks—we saw them as narrow-minded—that we in particular were willing to play quite open supervisory rôles in much of that year’s principal tomfoolery. |
