The folks were a bit worried that Brent’s guitar-playing and folk-singing betokened leftish political leanings, but they handled their misgivings. I”m mortified not to have communicated to them the name of my first “petit champignon” (junior companion), Elder Dan Aldridge. He deserves better billing.

Now that Valerie and I were engaged (they loved her, but the whole idea made them uneasy; Pappy’s line was, “In due time; in due time…”) and she was actually residing in our home, she shows up in her first of our family cards.
