back Matthew & Abigail Portraits next
These portraits of Matthew Bridge and his wife, our cousin Abigail Russell, hang in the Buckman Tavern on Lexington Green, in the upstairs room where John Hancock left his incriminating trunk on April 18.
Here they are in context, with Valerie M. Hoffman, the Tavern’s principal Historical Interpreter. We swapped yarns for a while, and she helped me solve the room’s lighting problems. Major thanks to Val and to the Lexington Historical Society, especially its President George Comtois, who graciously gave permission for the photo shoot, back in 2002.
Hmm. Just noticed that I’ve put this Bridge/Russell material in two places. Oh well, that’s all right. It deserves extra exposure.
