back Joseph Fisher’s Homestead back
Fisher place Joseph and Evaline McLean Fisher and their six children lived here. Looking east up Young Street from Partridge, it’s a stretch of grass now (2001), part of the grounds of the Saint Mary Monastery, the Temple’s immediate neighbor across Wells Street to the west. You can see the rear of the Monastery buildings in the background.
The Joseph Smith Academy, by the way, has now purchased the Monastery. When we visited in November, the sisters were getting ready to move in a fortnight. To a new location somewhere in the Midwest. They said where, but I forget.
Note the Temple tower under construction behind the Monastery/Academy.

At right, we look back in the other direction, from the corner of Young and Durphey at the top of the hill, down toward the old town and the Mississippi.
