The flag and star in the Beech Hill Cemetery denote John’s status as a Revolutionary soldier. I’m not sure what the laurel wreath means; I’ll look into it.
I’m told that Grandpa John was among the organizers of the Sandisfield Congregational Church, and Dolores Harasyko, the gracious Town Clerk of Sandisfield, has just (12 Jul 2005) confirmed from the original records that he was indeed a Selectman when the Town was created in 1762; see my “Sandisfield/Colebrook” section for details of his official contributions. The Stillmans joined our Mayflower line with the marriage of Grandma Amanda Hurd to Appleton Stillman, son of John and Rachel.
