The Sawyer Stone House |
Neither Aunt Caroline’s birthplace in Massachusetts nor the homes of her childhood and youth in upstate New York seem to preserve any memory of her brief life. But Hamburg, Livingston County, Michigan remembers her well, though she spent only her last few years of mortality there. They present this “Sawyer Stone House” as a centerpiece of their Caleb Sawyer Historical District. It’s not clear that Caleb got the place finished in Caroline’s lifetime. He married twice more, adding four more children to his immediate progeny. Eliza, his third wife, also brought a stepdaughter to their blended family. |
