What with the powerful example that Grandpas Jonathan and Oliver Wheeler of Acton contributed to our family tradition, ’way back in 1721, not to mention title to a big, paid-for house, along with our scintillating company through whatever years of mortality might remain to us, we truly did believe we’d assembled enough inducements to keep our beloved Ralston descendants right here with us, in the City of Distinction1. We tried, Lord knows, and they did seem to like it here, indoors and out.

In June, though, just as we were leaving to drive across the country, Ron announced that he had taken a job in Los Angeles. When we returned, the Ralstons had moved to Yorba Linda.
