2002: Timbaloo |
In a similar loving spirit, Chris and Mary Beth commissioned a local artist in Bermuda to make this porcelain piece for us. The picture is a facsimile of the original Edward Lear illustration of the Jumblies going to sea in a sieve (Their heads were green/ And their hands were blue…) The spelling, as it turns out, is Lear’s original. It’s surely my fault that we have distorted it, over the decades, but we manage somehow to live happily with both versions.
On the front porch of our own Timbaloo, it sat right above the mailbox. Now it’s on the wall by our bedroom, next to the painting displayed on the preceding page. |
