2002: Woburn |
Wish I’d written the story down, when the woman at the library told it. All I retain now, perhaps inaccurately, is that this house was built by a man who married an unattractive woman with a lot of money. Later, he deserted her, and for a long time she sat in her bedroom, behind the second-story windows over the porch, watching in vain for him to return. The unusual diagonal placement of the house gave her a clear view from those windows, up Lexington Street toward Woburn Center. Nowadays, it’ a funeral parlor. |
Woburn doesn’t quite qualify as a Treasure City for our family, even though Justin used to live there, as still do a number of our friends.
Our only major family-historical event in Woburn, if I’m remembering properly, was the intense and disastrous sojourn of my teenage Grandma Mary Ball (later Munroe) in the household of Michael Bacon in the 1660s. I do recommend the full story, which I’ve documented in the Section entitled “WilliamAndMary.” |
