2001—July: Ancient Little Neck Burying Ground
Buried Treasures
Willett
In the neighborhood called Riverside, in East Providence, Rhode Island, the Ancient Little Neck Burying Ground takes some finding. For us, though, it’s worth the trouble, inasmuch as it includes within this enclosure the seventeenth-century resting places of some of our most distinguished colonial immigrant ancestors: Ninth Great-Grandmother Dorothy Browne lies nearby, according to the cemetery records, but I’ve been unable to find a marker or any indication of her precise location.

Mayflower Pilgrim Elizabeth Tilley Howland, wife to Pilgrim John Howland, is buried next to the enclosure. She is our kin by the marriage of her daughter Lydia to our Uncle James Browne.
