Reverential comments made it clear that Dr. Stanley’s fancy banjo was some sort of epochal talisman. The specifics of the associated devotion were lost on us non-specialists, but we enjoyed his music. The other performers did their dazzling solos, to be sure, but the audience leaned forward in its seats when the Grand Old Man’s solo turns came up.
