But when we visited Rouen in 1968 (only once, as far as I recall), I knew only that it was the place where the English burned heroic teenager Jeanne d’Arc at the stake in 1431, thus ending one of the briefest of history’s starring careers.
We had a missionary district and a branch of the Church in Rouen, and so we had plenty of reason to visit this historic place. Pappy found this approach picturesque. |
