Appendix: Luynes |
Close to my old field of labor in Tours, only 34 miles north and west of Loches, the handsome 12th-century fortress château of Luynes is still occupied by its hereditary proprietor, the Duc de Luynes. I have the impression that one might be able to enjoy the Duke’s hospitality for a price, but we never investigated the possibility.

Medieval castle-builders designed them to impress the onlooker. One gathers that if the occupants wanted to keep you out, you’d be hard put to defeat their purpose.
I’ve encountered no allegations of titillating scandals staining the reputations of historic figures of this neighborhood. Maybe I haven’t looked hard enough. |
