Farewell

Friday, 24 January 1969. Our beloved staff had farewell gifts for us: a large pictorial Histoire de la France and three fine Peyrat oil paintings1 of Breton scenes (in acknowledgement, I believe, particularly of my strong ties to the region). Pappy ended up with the two smaller canvases, and we brought the big one home. We reunited the set at our house when Pappy died in 1995.

Note also in the background the map of la Mission Française and The Board. And Pappy’s Tricolore at far left, with the last photo of the folks together. The next object is a small ship model whose significance I’ve lost, but that we still have.
1Many years later, we were tickled to find a similar piece by the same artist in the well-appointed dining room of Ron and Crystal Packard in Los Altos Hills, California.
