Travels with Pappy |
En Bretagne |
It’s time for a change of gears, in the interest of a balanced story. If I were to incorporate here all the pictures and anecdotes we have preserved about places we want to remember and share, it would saturate whatever remains of your interest and leave the impression that our mission experience was merely one big, delicious tourist-bash.
In the hope of rendering the whole picture with some accuracy, I’m going to relegate the rest of the touristic details to an alphabetical appendix within this topic, summarizing the geographic subtopics1 here, with links. When you’ve had all you want, you can always return to the chronology via the “Next Topic” link at the bottom of any page. All these delights were real, precious, and important, but I’m eager to lend sufficient weight to the aspects of our ministry that didn’t tend so to generate images and amusing anecdotes. 1Some of our visits have proved hard to distinguish in retrospect from those of Pappy and Mammy, before we came; I’ll count on you to forgive minor confusions. Pappy also preserved shots of Lourdes, of Biarritz, of Roman ruins at Saintes and at Poitiers, and of other spots that he and Mammy visited, but not in our company. Unless I change my mind, we’ll save those for his Gedenkschrift. |
