Tuition
Now here’s a relic.

At Valerie’s wise suggestion, I e-mailed it (March, 2011) to Rebecca and Mary Beth, our family’s most recent Harvard graduates. It speaks well of their carefully-nurtured gentility that I can with decorum reproduce their responses here:
  • Rebecca: “HA!”
  • Mary Beth: “Wow...just, wow! Thanks for sharing!”
  • My bemused riposte: “Yeah, I recall that we ‘rioted’ at MIT when annual tuition hit four figures. President Julius ‘Big Jay’ Stratton sent out his blonde daughters, Cathy, Carrie, and Laurie (on whom I had a bit of a case) with tea and crumpets for the ‘rioters.’ ’Twas surely another day...”
