April 24—Changes and changes! Elder Hill’s gone to Lille,1 replaced by Elder Dee Petersen. The Elders Bennion have found other lodgings, and Elders Petersen and Halliday have replaced them chez Besnard. Sister Sheri Christoffersen and Sister Sarah Hess are now in an apartment on the Boulevard Jeanne d’Arc.
1They rhyme, by the way, “Hill” and “Lille.” No, you’re right: standard French doesn’t have our Germanic short-i sound. But those folks up on the Belgian border speak another version of la belle langue.

The new arrivals: Elder Petersen is of Danish extraction and very amiable. Sister Christoffersen is also Danish, blonde, pretty, and nice. And Sister Hess is compact, brunette, kinda Germanic anyway, sweet, and completely in over her head. She’s just arrived from the States, and doesn’t yet even know how to say “bonjour!” Arriving before her companion, she spent most of the day at Delétangs’—despite the fact that neither understood a word the other said.

The whole branch went on a picnic2 at Mi-Forêt, and it was grand. We’re all utterly exhausted.
2Somebody please help me remember the name of the sister at left. Next is the older Renaud daughter, whose first name I’ve forgotten. Marie France, maybe? Then Hubert Leroy, Sister Renaud, and Sister Cholet. As I’ve remarked elsewhere, Sister Renaud deserves a better picture, but this is all I seem to have.
